Who Invented Mother's Day?
Anna Jarvis

The person associated with creating the national holiday we know as Mother's Day is Anna Jarvis. It was first celebrated at Andrews Methodist Church in West Virginia on May 10, 1907, to honor the memory of her own mother who died three years earlier. The church bell rang 72 times for each year of her mother's life. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson declared Mother's Day a national holiday.

Nearly fifty countries honor their mothers with a special day. The United States always celebrates this holiday on the second Sunday of May.

Every day is Mother's Day at Gallery of Diamonds. Since we began our legendary WHY MOM DESERVES A DIAMOND® contest, nearly 200,000 kids from the nation have submitted words of love for their moms.

"A Mother's love is new every day." Anna Jarvis.
