The Legend of Gallery of Diamonds

Michael Watson was adopted into a family of loving parents who lived in the small town of New Albany, Indiana. Although curious about his birth origins, Watson learned it is the person who gives caring instruction and who gently guides our footsteps in life that is one's true mother.

Watson began his profession at the age of 17 at a small jewelry store. His duties were simply to sweep the wooden floors and deliver repairs to the goldsmith. He would be handed a small brown paper bag, told never to open it, and deliver it across the town. He never knew the precious jewels it contained!

Years later, Watson was hired by a diamond importer in Kentucky and soon began a love affair with rare and beautiful diamonds. He journeyed to California and earned the title of gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America.

Absorbed in the magical world of diamonds, Watson learned the secret of how to offer fine jewelry at lower prices than competitors.

Watson founded Gallery of Diamonds Jewelers in 1991.

In 1993, Watson wanted to give kids a chance to express their love and appreciation for their own mothers.   He invited schoolkids to write an essay entitled, WHY MOM DESERVES A DIAMOND®.  No one knew it at the time, as the first DiamondWinner presented the winning grand prize diamond to her mother on that beautiful Mother's Day, but the course of history would forever be changed in the way thousands of kids could honor their moms.

Today, Gallery of Diamonds specializes in diamonds, platinum, fine gold jewelry, and is a leading manufacturer of mother's jewelry. The WHY MOM DESERVES A DIAMOND® contest is the largest mothers writing contest in the United States.

Every year, an average of twenty thousand letters are mailed to Gallery of Diamonds.
